Adsorption
VOC Concentration
Envanio’s VOC concentration process uses adsorption to concentrate dilute solvent emissions. For cost-effective air pollution control, adsorption is recommended first to concentrate large exhaust airflows with low pollutant loads. The concentrated exhaust air is then routed to downstream recuperative or regenerative thermal oxidation for highly energy-efficient destruction.
Adsorptive Concentration of Large Air Flow Rates with Low Pollutant Concentrations
| Process | Adsorption |
|---|---|
| Air Flow Rate | 13,000 SCFM to 150,000 SCFM per adsorber unit* |
| Solvent Concentration | up to 1,000 ppmv as C3 |
| Concentration Ratio | up to 30:1 |
| Exhaust Gas Temperature | up to 104 °F |
| Desorption Temperature | up to 428 °F |
| Capture Efficiency | up to 99% |
| Typical Target Pollutants | Hydrocarbons, alcohols, acetates, chlorinated hydrocarbons, glycols, aldehydes, ketones |
*Individual modules can be easily combined, meaning there are no limits to the volume of exhaust air that can be cleaned.
Each system is custom-designed based on your requirements and processes.

The Design of Our VOC Concentrator
The centerpiece of the system is the vertical rotor disc, which is divided into adsorption, desorption, and cooling zones. The temperature-resistant adsorber consists of a honeycomb-structured support material coated with zeolite. This honeycomb structure reduces pressure loss and, consequently, lowers the system’s electrical energy consumption. One or more integrated pre-filter stages protect the adsorber material from clogging caused by dust or paint particles, contributing significantly to a long service life.
Typical Applications for VOC Concentrators
Envanio designs and manufactures systems for the concentration of volatile organic compounds to meet the strict emission-control demands of your specific production processes. Thanks to their modular design and rugged construction, our VOC concentrators are widely utilized across a diverse range of industrial sectors:
- Surface Treatment View Industry VOC concentration is used upstream in painting, printing, and coating surfaces to concentrate large volumes of exhaust air with low VOC concentrations, allowing it to be treated efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Wafer Manufacturing View Industry In wafer manufacturing, VOC concentration is used upstream to concentrate large volumes of cleanroom exhaust air with low VOC concentrations before efficient, cost-effective final treatment.
- Automotive Industry View Industry VOC concentration serves upstream in automotive paint shops, concentrating high-volumes exhaust air with low solvent concentrations so it can be treated cost-effectively.

FAQ
A VOC concentration system is not suitable for exhaust air containing formaldehyde, methanol, or methyl chloride. It is also not recommended for streams with strongly acidic or alkaline inorganic compounds, sulfur compounds, halogens, heavy metals, plasticizers, or oil mists.
