### Complex and Dynamic Process Conditions

Variable VOC loads, shifting production schedules, and changing emission compositions require flexible and resilient equipment. That’s why Envanio designs systems that have proven effective in complex and dynamic process and operating conditions.

Key Recycling Industry Applications Requiring Air Pollution Control
---------------------------------------------------------------------

 ###### Chemical Reactors and Synthesis Plants

Chemical reactions generate exhaust streams with variable VOC concentrations and a wide variety of diverse reaction byproducts. Fluctuating operating conditions and discontinuous processes require flexible designs concepts that ensure safe, stable emission treatment under dynamic loads.

###### Thermal Separation, Drying, and Pyrolysis Processes

Distillation, evaporation, drying, and pyrolysis systems produce elevated temperature exhaust air. These hot gas streams offer prime conditions for energy-efficient treatment, especially when combined with heat recovery to reduce overall plant fuel and CO₂ emissions.

###### Pyrolysis and Recycling Processes

Thermochemical processes such as pyrolysis generate highly contaminated, complex exhaust streams containing organic cracking products and varying compositions. They require robust, high-performance systems capable of reliable operation under challenging thermal and chemical conditions.

###### Battery Recycling

Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in the electrification of the automotive industry. At the end of their service life, these batteries must be recycled safely and in an environmentally responsible manner. However, recycling processes generate toxic emissions such as hydrogen fluoride (HF) as well as solvent-containing exhaust air from the electrolyte, which must be reliably treated. For this purpose, Envanio offers regenerative thermal oxidation (RTO) systems and scrubbers. Depending on the application, the RTO systems can also be electrically heated.

###### Refrigerator Recycling

When refrigerators are shredded, propellants are released from the insulation foams, along with solvents and other organic compounds from refrigeration circuits. These emissions must be safely treated to meet environmental and safety requirements. Hybrid RTO systems are used for this purpose, in which the volatile organic compounds are utilized directly as fuel in the combustion chamber. This reduces the system’s additional energy requirements and makes thermal oxidation particularly efficient. These systems are also frequently combined with integrated heat recovery to further increase overall process energy efficiency.

###### Precious Metal Recycling

Precious metals are used in numerous products across the jewelry, electronics, and process industries, making their recovery both economically and environmentally sound. The thermal processing and recycling methods used for this purpose generate various pollutants depending on the feedstock, including dust, acidic gases, and organic and inorganic pollutant compounds. To ensure compliance with emission limits, multi-stage air pollution control systems are used to reliably remove these various pollutant components, ensuring environmentally sound plant operation.

###### Pyrolysis

Whether it involves the pyrolysis of plastics, tires, biomass, or waste: Thermal treatment generates complex exhaust gas streams containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs), hydrocarbons, odors, particulates, and other process-specific pollutants. The gas compositions can vary significantly under demanding operating conditions, requiring robust and flexibly designed exhaust air treatment concepts. Envanio offers customized solutions for this purpose, ranging from thermal oxidation to multi-stage exhaust gas treatment systems with integrated heat recovery. This reliably reduces emissions while simultaneously optimizing the energy efficiency of the entire process.

###### Lead or Copper Recycling

When recycling waste materials containing lead and copper, materials are melted down in thermal processes to recover valuable metals. Depending on the raw materials used, the process generates various emissions that must be reliably treated. In addition to dust, sulfur dioxide (SO₂) poses a major challenge for air pollution control. Envanio offers high-performance desulfurization (DeSOx) solutions for this purpose, available in both wet and dry configurations.

Suitable Systems for the Recycling Industry
---------------------------------------------

Air pollution control requirements for the recycling industry vary based on your specific production process, exhaust air flow rates, and regional regulatory standards. Envanio offers both standardized and custom-engineered systems designed to meet your specific operational needs and adapt to changing production parameters, drawing from a broad portfolio of field-proven technologies.

### Regenerative Thermal Oxidation

Regenerative thermal oxidation (RTO) is a highly efficient process that cleans industrial exhaust by destroying hazardous air pollutants (VOCs and HAPs) and eliminating unpleasant odors. By using internal ceramic heat exchange media, the system traps and recycles its own heat, making the entire purification process incredibly energy efficient.

### Electric Regenerative Thermal Oxidation

Envanio's electrically heated regenerative thermal oxidizer (eRTO) combines high VOC destruction efficiency, operational reliability, and exceptional energy performance. By using electric heating elements instead of gas-fired burners, the system avoids combustion-related byproducts and significantly reduces NOₓ emissions. The result is a cleaner, more sustainable solution for industrial air pollution control.

### Wet Scrubbing

Envanio’s wet scrubbers rely on absorption for the wet separation of inorganic compounds, particulates, mist, and acidic gases. During the regenerative or direct-fired thermal oxidation of halogenated hydrocarbons or sulfur compounds, substances such as hydrogen halides or SOx are generated, which must be scrubbed from the exhaust air in a downstream wet scrubber.
