Overcoming Key Challenges in Glass & Mineral Wool Production
------------------------------------------------------------------

Glass melting or processing releases volatile organic compounds (VOCs), particulates, nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur oxides (SOx), and volatile boron compounds. Reliably treating these pollutants is essential to comply with environmental regulations and protect operations. At the same time, efficient air pollution control is essential for maintaining competitiveness and reducing operating costs. By integrating our air pollution control solutions into your existing plant infrastructure, we help improve energy efficiency while delivering consistently high purification performance. With customized technologies, engineering expertise, and comprehensive lifecycle services, Envanio supports glass and mineral wool producers worldwide in managing process emissions safely, efficiently, and sustainably.

### Cost Pressure & Skills Shortage

Rising costs and labor shortages call for highly efficient systems. Our robust, low-maintenance air pollution control solutions operate fully automated. Integrated Smart Services provide real-time data analysis for fast fault detection, preventing unplanned downtime.

Key Glass & Mineral Wool Manufacturing Applications Requiring Air Pollution Control
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

###### Exhaust Gas Treatment for Glass Melting Tanks

The melting furnace is the core of every glasswork. Operating at extremely high exhaust gas temperatures with heavy pollutant loads, it represents a major engineering challenge. Envanio provides customized solutions for continuous furnace operation, supporting both new plant builds and retrofits projects carried out during ongoing production. Our catalytic ceramic cartridge filter (CCF) systems combine particulate removal, DeSOx, and DeNOx into a single compact footprint, cutting capital costs and pressure drop. The resulting clean exhaust gas retains high thermal energy at elevated temperatures, creating ideal conditions for downstream heat exchanger systems and is suited for power generation from waste heat (Organic Rankine Cycle).

###### Air Pollution Control for Coating Processes (CVD)

Online flat glass coating with dimethyltin dichloride produces highly concentrated organotin compounds (VOCs) and corrosive acid (HCl) vapors. Envanio supplies a fully integrated, multi-stage abatement system. A direct-fired thermal oxidizer destroys organic compounds at temperatures exceeding 1,472 °F, designed specifically to resist tin oxide deposits. A downstream heat recovery boiler captures waste energy and cools the gas to optimal process temperatures. Finally, hydrochloric acid vapors are chemically neutralized and separated via a custom-designed dry sorption system baghouse, protecting downstream plant components from corrosion and ensuring full regulatory compliance.

###### Air Pollution Control in Flat Glass Mirror Manufacturing

Applying protective backings during mirror manufacturing generates exhaust streams containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs). If solvent concentrations are low, a zeolite adsorption wheel concentrates the stream using a minimal hot air desorb flow. By drastically reducing the volume of air requiring treatment, the downstream thermal oxidizer operates with exceptional energy efficiently and minimal fuel consumption. VOCs are destroyed in a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) system at temperatures exceeding 1,472 °F. Electrically heated RTO systems are also available to further reduce your facility’s carbon footprint.

###### Air Pollution Control in Mineral Wool Production

Manufacturing mineral wool releases concentrated inorganic pollutants from the melt, alongside organic compounds and ammonia (NH₃) during binder curing and recycled material processing. Envanio delivers complete, coordinated systems for this process. Catalytic ceramic filter systems combine dust removal, DeSOx, and DeNOx into one compact unit to save space, lower pressure drop and drastically reduce capital costs. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), ammonia (NH₃), and formaldehyde are then destroyed in a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) system operating at temperatures exceeding 1,472 °F, with fully electric heating available to zero direct combustion emissions.

Suitable Systems for the Glass Industry
-----------------------------------------

Air pollution control requirements for the glass industry vary based on your specific production process, exhaust air flow rates, and regional regulatory standards. Envanio offers both standardized and custom-engineered systems designed to meet your specific operational needs and adapt to changing production parameters, drawing from a broad portfolio of field-proven technologies.

### Catalytic Candle Filtration

Envanio’s catalytic hot gas filtration is based on an integrated 3-in-1 process for industrial hot gas and exhaust air purification. Rigid, high-temperature ceramic filter elements enable the simultaneous removal of particulate dust, heavy metals, sulfur oxides (SOx), and nitrogen oxides (NOx) from process exhaust in a single compact system.

### Regenerative Thermal Oxidation

Regenerative thermal oxidation (RTO) is a highly efficient process that cleans industrial exhaust by destroying hazardous air pollutants (VOCs and HAPs) and eliminating unpleasant odors. By using internal ceramic heat exchange media, the system traps and recycles its own heat, making the entire purification process incredibly energy efficient.

### Direct Fired Thermal Oxidation

Direct fired thermal oxidation is a highly efficient process that cleans industrial exhaust by destroying hazardous air pollutants (VOCs and HAPs) and eliminating unpleasant odors. The system is particularly well-suited when heavily contaminated exhaust streams must be treated reliably with high removal efficiencies, and when complex heat recovery systems are not economically feasible.
